History of the museum
We are Germany’s oldest independent Jewish museum. German Chancellor Helmut Kohl opened the museum on 9 November 1988 on the 50th anniversary of the November pogrom. Our second location, Museum Judengasse, was added in 1992.
Our museum library is a library specialised in Jewish history, religion and culture. As a non-lending library, we welcome all who are interested in visiting us during the Jewish Museum opening hours. Access to the library is currently limited due to renovation and therefore only possible by advance appointment.
